Objective-C Video Series for VTC.com

Update! 2010-02-22 at 1:38 pm MST

Videos are now LIVE at VTC.com! Update! 2010-01-28 at 11:18 pm All videos are now complete! The next process takes a couple of weeks before they are live at VTC. I have been diligently working on a new video series for VTC.com covering Objective-C. There will be over six hours of content covering many Objective-C classes. The largest part of the training will be building a simple Twitter application named TwitterMe.

The functionality of the application will include

  • Verify we have credentials
  • Store credentials
  • Authenticate credentials
  • Ensure there is text to post
  • Determine text count
  • Create TinyURL from url found in text
  • Post update

Here is a list of some of the classes used in the TwitterMe application

  • NSTask
  • NSXMLDocument
  • NSScanner
  • NSAttributedString
  • NSAlert
  • NSFont
  • NSNotificationCenter
  • NSWindow

Here are a few additional items covered

  • #define macro
  • #pragma mark
  • @property & @synthesize
  • Dot syntax
  • Private category
  • Singleton
  • String constants
  • Using multiple class files
I will post when the series goes live on VTC.com. Hopefully, within the next three weeks.

Hey Allan,

Just wanted to post some feedback about the Objective-C videos you made for VTC.

I'm glad I found them! Reading books is kinda complicated for me since I don't have much time and most of objective-c and cocoa training videos are oriented for iPhone development and not for the Mac (I know they are really close to each other, but you get the idea).
It's much easier for me to load a couple of videos in my iPod and watch them while i travel to the office, or while I have lunch.

You did a great job and I'd love to see more videos in the future covering other aspects of cocoa development, I'm sure there is much more to teach/learn :)

Best regards from Argentina,
M

Thank you for the kind words Mariano. I am very glad the videos have helped. If I do more in the future, I will be sure to let you know.

Another resource is PragProg.com: pragprog.com. They have a few books on Objective-C that are very good.

Best regards from Colorado,
Craig
